How to Choose the Right Shoes for Your Child

What makes a good children's shoe?  👟

A good children's shoe should protect the foot while allowing it to move as naturally and comfortably as possible. Because children's feet are still developing, the right fit is generally more important than the brand, appearance or price of the shoe.

When buying shoes for your child, fit should be the first priority.
A shoe can be attractive, well-made, and expensive, but if it does not fit your child's individual foot properly,
it may not be the right choice.

What Should I Look for When Buying Children's Shoes?

👣 1. Check the length:
The shoe should be long enough to accommodate your child's foot comfortably, with some appropriate room for growth. Avoid buying shoes that are excessively large simply so your child can "grow into them."

👣 2. Check the width:
Children's feet come in many different shapes and widths. The shoe should not squeeze the sides of the foot or force the toes together.

👣 3. Look at the toe area:
There should be enough room for the toes to move naturally. A toe box that becomes very narrow toward the front can restrict the toes.

👣 4. Test flexibility:
The shoe should allow the foot to move naturally. Depending on the child's age and activity, unnecessarily
stiff or heavy footwear may make movement more difficult.

👣 5. Make sure the heel is secure:
The heel should stay reasonably well in place without excessive slipping, rubbing or pressure.

👣 6. Check the fastening:
Laces, Velcro, buckles or straps should hold the shoe securely without being uncomfortably tight.

👣 7. Don't choose by size number alone:
This is particularly important. Shoe sizes are not completely standardized. The same labelled size can have different internal lengths, widths, and shapes depending on the manufacturer and model.

One important thing to remember:

There is no single shoe that is perfect for every child. Children's feet differ considerably in length, width,
shape and development, so a shoe that fits one child beautifully, may be completely unsuitable for another.

Also, don't rely solely on the size number printed inside the shoe! Sizing can vary between manufacturers
and even between different models from the same brand. The actual fit and internal dimensions of the shoe are much more important.

The best children's shoe isn't necessarily the most expensive or the most fashionable one — it's the one that fits the child's individual foot properly, feels comfortable and provides the protection they need for their everyday activities.

Don't forget to check the shoes regularly!

Children's feet can grow quickly and a shoe that fitted perfectly a few weeks or months ago, may no longer
be suitable today.

Look for signs such as red marks, blisters, complaints of discomfort, toes touching the front, or unusual pressure on the sides of the feet. These can be reasons to check the fit more carefully.

The golden rule: Don't buy a shoe because the number says it should fit. Buy it because it actually fits your child's foot. ❤️ 👟
